Wood Stove Prices 2026: What Every Major Brand Costs
Share
Updated October 2026
Wood stove prices are hard to pin down because most premium brands do not publish them. You get call for pricing, a showroom visit, and a quote that bundles the stove with installation. This guide puts the numbers side by side: our published prices for Drolet and Englander, and the best available dealer prices for the brands that hide theirs.
Quick answer: what a good wood stove costs, by home size
- In stock, up to 1,200 sq ft: Englander Blue Ridge 100 N, $1,099, 250–1,200 sq ft (Ships in 1–3 days)
- In stock, up to 1,800 sq ft: Century FW2800, $1,389, 500–1,800 sq ft (Ships in 1–3 days)

Every stove is EPA 2020 certified, with No Sales Tax in any state and free shipping. Prices shown are what we charge, all in.
One number to keep in mind throughout: we charge No Sales Tax in any state. On a $1,899 stove at a 7% sales tax rate, that is $133 you keep. On a $4,879 dealer stove, the tax alone would be about $340.
The short answer
A new EPA-certified wood stove costs roughly $1,000 to $1,900 from a direct value brand, and $1,900 to $5,500 from a dealer-only premium brand, stove only. Size moves the price less than brand does.
| Size class | Our prices (Drolet, Englander) | Dealer-only brands |
|---|---|---|
| Small, up to ~1,200 sq ft | $999 – $1,199 | ~$1,900 – $3,500 |
| Medium, ~1,500 – 2,100 sq ft | $1,279 – $1,699 | ~$2,700 – $4,300 |
| Large, 2,100 sq ft and up | $1,749 – $1,929 | ~$3,600 – $5,500 |
The stove is only part of the bill. Chimney or liner, a hearth pad and labor usually add more than the stove itself — see what it costs installed below. Shopping pellet instead? See pellet stove prices.

Dealer-only brands: what they cost
These brands sell through local dealers and mostly do not publish prices. The figures below are the best public numbers we could find — published dealer lists where they exist, owner-reported quotes where they do not. They are stove only and vary by region. We are not a dealer for any of these brands.
| Brand | Model | Price, stove only |
|---|---|---|
| Jøtul | F 602 V3 · F 55 · F 500 Oslo | $1,889 · $3,599 · $4,879 (published) |
| Vermont Castings | Aspen C3 to Defiant | ~$1,999 – $4,819 (MSRP) |
| Regency | F1150 to F5200 | $2,139 – $5,940 (dealer-published) |
| Blaze King | Sirocco to Chinook, incl. King 40 | ~$2,699 – $4,823 (dealer-published) |
| HearthStone | Lincoln to Bari | $2,549 – $8,899 (published MSRP) |

Why premium stoves cost two to three times more

It is not that the heat is different. A BTU is a BTU. The gap comes from four things:
- Material. Cast iron and soapstone (Jøtul, Vermont Castings, HearthStone) cost more to make than plate steel. They hold heat longer after the fire dies; steel heats a cold room faster. Our cast iron vs steel guide covers the trade-off.
- Catalytic combustors. Blaze King, Lopi's hybrids, HearthStone and Jøtul's V3 stoves use a catalyst for long, clean burns. It works, and it is a wear part you replace. See catalytic vs non-catalytic.
- Dealer margin. A local showroom, territory protection and an installation crew all come out of the stove price.
- Brand and design. An Oslo or a Defiant is a piece of furniture as much as a heater. That is worth something to some buyers.
If you are buying a heater rather than a centerpiece, a Drolet or Englander does the same job for less. The HT-3000 heats up to 2,700 sq ft and takes 22" logs at $1,899 — less than half the published price of a Jøtul Oslo.
What about big-box budget stoves?
Home centers and farm stores sell stoves under brands like US Stove, Ashley and Vogelzang, and some cost less than ours. The differences are in build, warranty and how output is advertised. Our US Stove and Ashley vs Englander guide compares them directly.
What a wood stove costs installed
Budget the stove plus three other items:
| Item | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Chimney, stovepipe or liner | Depends on height and route |
| Hearth pad | $189 – $525 |
| Professional installation | $1,000 – $2,500+ |
Our wood stove installation cost guide breaks the full job down line by line. If you are relining a masonry chimney, the chimney liner guide covers kit prices and what a pro charges. Putting a stove into an existing fireplace instead? See what a fireplace insert costs installed.
When comparing quotes from a dealer, ask for the installed price including venting. It is the only figure you can compare with a stove you buy online and install separately.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a wood stove cost?
A new EPA-certified wood stove costs about $1,000 to $1,900 from a direct value brand like Drolet or Englander, and $1,900 to $5,500 from dealer-only premium brands like Jøtul, Blaze King, Lopi or HearthStone. That is the stove alone; venting, a hearth pad and installation are extra.
What is the cheapest EPA-certified wood stove?
Among the stoves we sell, the Drolet Fox at $999 is the lowest-priced full-size EPA-certified wood stove. For tents and cabins, Englander and Drolet camp stoves start at $269.
Why don't premium brands list their prices?
They sell through local dealers with protected territories. Keeping prices off the web lets dealers price by region and sell installation with the stove. You will need two or three quotes to know whether one is fair.
