Cracked glass or a loose retainer?

  • Glass rattles or the door leaks around it: tighten or replace the glass retainers, and replace the glass gasket at the same time. See wood stove gaskets.
  • Retainer screws stripped or seized: replace the retainer kit; it comes with the screws on most SBI stoves.
  • Glass cracked: stop using the stove until the glass is replaced. Stove door glass is heat-resistant ceramic glass, never window glass.
  • Glass just dirty: a hot fire with dry wood keeps it clean; use a stove glass cleaner when the stove is cold.
