What a stove install actually needs

Most people budget for the appliance and are surprised by the rest. A typical wood stove install needs four things beyond the stove itself: floor protection sized to the model, a full venting run from the stove to above the roofline, clearance hardware if the stove sits close to a combustible wall, and — in a tightly built house or a mobile home — an outside air connection. Our installation cost breakdown prices each of those, and the installation guide covers the order the work happens in.

Why fitment matters more than it looks

Hearth pads, heat shields and faceplates are certified with specific appliances, not sold by rough size. A pad that is large enough but not listed for your stove does not satisfy the manual, and a wall shield only earns its reduced clearance when it is the shield the manufacturer tested. Venting works the same way in a different direction: pipe is chosen by diameter and by whether it is single or double-wall, and mixing brands or wall types mid-run is where inspections fail. Where a product fits a range of models, we list them on the product page rather than leaving you to guess.

Accessory FAQs

Which accessories does every wood stove install need?

Floor protection unless the stove sits on a non-combustible floor, connector pipe from the stove to the chimney, and a chimney or liner. A wall heat shield is needed only where clearances are tight; an outside air kit is required in mobile homes and advisable in tightly sealed houses.

How do I know if a part fits my stove?

Check the fitment line on the product page and confirm against your owner's manual, which is linked on every appliance page. For venting, match the diameter to your stove's flue collar — 6" for nearly every wood stove, 3" for most pellet stoves.

Do accessories ship free?

Orders over $250 ship free to the lower 48; below that a $21.95 flat rate applies. There is no sales tax in any state on anything, regardless of order size.

Do you sell replacement parts?

We stock consumables and common replacement items — door gaskets, ash vacuum filters, blower components, thermodiscs and firebox hardware for the brands we carry. If you cannot find the part for your model, call 1-888-914-0022 with the model number and we will tell you whether we can source it.
