Inserts are the one category where a local shop's site visit has real value, because a wrong measurement is an expensive mistake. How delivery works

Inserts ship by tractor trailer and are delivered curbside. Once the shipment reaches the local freight terminal the carrier calls to book an appointment, normally a four-hour window on a weekday. The driver lowers the crated insert at the end of your driveway with a lift-gate; curbside delivery does not include moving it inside, uncrating, or installation. Insert bundles save on the parts you'd buy anyway

An insert install needs three things: the insert, a faceplate to cover the fireplace surround, and a stainless liner running up the chimney. Both Drolet inserts are sold as bundles with all three included — the Escape 1500-I and Escape 1800-I each come in 25 ft and 35 ft liner versions. Measure your chimney height to pick the length; most single-storey chimneys take 25 ft. Buying the bundle costs less than the same three items separately.

What you'll need for installation

Beyond the insert itself, plan for a stainless chimney liner kit (required for a code-compliant insert install — an insert cannot safely vent into an unlined masonry flue), a faceplate or trim kit sized to your fireplace opening, and the clearances listed in the owner's manual — see our clearance guide. What's the difference between an insert and a freestanding stove?

An insert slides into an existing fireplace opening and vents through a liner in the existing chimney. A freestanding stove sits out in the room on a hearth pad with its own stove pipe. If you already have a masonry fireplace, an insert is usually the cheaper and tidier conversion.

How do I know what size insert fits?

Measure the fireplace opening — width at the front, height, and depth. Each product page lists the insert's body dimensions and the faceplate size, so compare both: the body has to fit inside the opening, and the faceplate has to cover the surround. Fireplace openings taper toward the back, so measure the rear width too.

Do I need a chimney liner?

Yes. A stainless liner sized to the insert is required for a safe, code-compliant installation — it gives the insert a correctly sized, sealed flue instead of a large masonry cavity that won't draft properly. We stock 6" 304-grade liner kits in 25 ft and 35 ft lengths.

Can I put a pellet insert in my fireplace?

Yes — the ComfortBilt HP22i is a pellet insert with its own required flexible vent kit. It runs on a thermostat and feeds itself from a hopper, but it does need an electrical outlet at the fireplace.

Are these inserts EPA certified?

Yes. Every wood and pellet insert we sell is EPA certified; each model's tested emissions figure is listed on its product page.
