Overview
The Drolet Escape 1500-I is an EPA 2020 certified wood-burning insert that transforms an existing masonry fireplace into a high-efficiency heat source. Rated at up to 65,000 BTU/h, it heats between 500 and 1,800 square feet and features a 144 CFM blower included in the box. The non-catalytic, stainless-steel secondary-air combustion system delivers 68% HHV efficiency (76% optimum) with 2.4 g/h particulate emissions. Accepts 18" logs loaded over width, with a 7-hour maximum burn time. ULC S628 and UL 1482/UL 737 certified.

This stove does not work well. The damper doesn't function correctly, and the blower almost never works. At night I can never get event get a 4 hour burn with pushing damper in.

My Drolet 1500i came with some bumps and bruises from the factory and shipping, but they were all cosmetic. Drolet sent me some touch up paint to deal with some of those blemishes.
The wood-fired insert is mighty! Wood heat is special.
You can't load this one "North-South" as they say (if you're using 16" long splits of firewood). The logs have to go in side to side ("East-West") which just makes loading with wood a bit more difficult. You'll need a stove or insert with a deeper firebox to be able to load "North-South".

Very happy I received the unit sooner then excepted after a few glitches. SBI QC could improve, Faceplate I received had a lot of exposed steel. I had to purchase a can of high temp paint locally and refinish it. I also have a broken brick in the insert which may have occurred during shipping?

Installed mine Nov. 2024 by professional installer. Excellent little insert-generates huge amounts of heat. Would definitely buy another one. (have Drolet stove in basement as well). Although, we are are very happy with the product certain quality issues have to be addressed (thus 4 stars)- hope that my submission will help company addressing some quality control issues.
1. Set of assembly bolts for the finishing frame were not in the factory package (fortunately I had some at home, so my installer was able to finish installation - with some extra black paint.)
2. Blower fan is not properly (designed or assembled) - thermostat does not engage at all - due to extra large gap. My installer called tech support but could not find a solution, so I had to rewire the switch, so it could be turned on/off manually, abandoning sensor functionality altogether. (many reviewers are pointing the same problem).
3. Air intake lever does not have any indicators on how wide is open - that should be improved.

We love the Escape 1500 wood stove insert. It is a great value. I bought the same unit in our previous house, so this is the second 1500 Escape we've purchased. The heat output is amazing. In our 1800 sq/ft house, we get enough heat out of it to keep the whole house warm. I haven't seen any other wood stove inserts in person, but I've read about some issues with those. The build quality on the Escape 1500 seems great. Installation wasn't too bad. I did it myself. Takes quite a bit of work, but overall it is well work the work and the money spent.

Received the unit 3-1/2 weeks ago. Paint on the ash lip was smeared off in places. Just finished installation mostly by myself, which was not easy. The 7/16" bolt to secure the shield is about impossible to tighten. The blower does not work. So I'll call Drolet in the morning about these 2 items.
Will have to wait to see how it performs.

No instructions on how to install faceplate - there should be instructions on the size of the gap for blowing warm air into the room. We had to make numerous calls to figure out how to make the blower work.

So far I'm very pleased with it. I've not been able to burn a fire in it yet due to the above average temperatures in our area but I'm sure it will not disappoint! The installer said he's installed a lot of different types but this one impressed him a lot! I looked for quite some time before purchasing this due to the small size area that it had to fit into and wanted to still have the ability to burn 18" logs, have good burn times and be able to heat a decent square footage. This one fit all of the things I was looking for and it seems like it is going to be perfect! I'm excited for colder temps so I can burn a fire and find out how well it works! Added bonus will be showing my husband just how efficient it is and that it was well worth it!

What a great product. We purchased this unit online through Rise. They were helpful with all my questions and concerns before purchasing the Drolet 1500. Everything arrived in excellent condition, with no shipping damages. There was a slight delay in shipping because of a computer error showing more units than what was available. the stove was just installed. I've had two fires so far. It heats and holds a fire nicely. The blower is nice. The damper will take some getting used to. The fire box is shallow. Wood gets loaded horizontally and it doesn't hold a lot at one time. I'm used to loading previous wood stoves up with quite a few pieces vertically. for the price, so far, I am pleased with the purchase.

A specialty store tried to sell us a more popular brand of stove (Quadrafire) and with installation it was going to run us over $8000! With this Drolet (that is just as good for sure) and an independent contractor installing it...we paid less than half of that! So far we love this insert... we had a Russo wood stove in our fireplace and could not get a good draft this one is great. I did the install myself and it was fairly easy, had to use an offset for this install and was afraid we would have draft problems but it works great, Good heat with a low burn fire and the blower is almost silent. Great stove especially for the price. Purchased from Lowes online with a quick delivery.

I am real pleased with the quality and looks of my new insert and the liner kit that came with it. Drolet wood stoves get great reviews on You Tube and other online sites. I researched this purchase and found out the Drolet 1500 Insert gets better EPA ratings than some more expensive brands. Drolet truly is a great Canadian company that does give a higher heat value. It is only fitting that a Country as cold as Canada would be the home of a company that builds such great wood stoves.

Purchased this insert from Costco Canada. Well made. Throws plenty of heat especially on those cold early mornings in Northern Ontario. The only issue I had was the need for an offset adapter which wasn't readily available from Drolet. I had to purchase an alternate one from the States. Great looking fireplace insert in our cottage. Very cosy also in the evenings.

So far, so good... The chimney has been swept and all the chimney modifications have been completed. Expect to complete the installation in a week or so...

This was a purchase for our cabin to install into the inefficient fire place. We spent nine months researching, inspecting and asking insert owners about their stoves. The Drolet 1500 had no bad reviews from any of their owners!! It is beautiful and very well built wood stove. Shipping was amazingly quick from Drolet!!

Great product so far. Have run the initial 3 small fires to “cure” the stove and will be excited to run a full on fire to test the blower.
