Englander Blue Ridge 300L Wood Stove (ESW0008)

The Englander Blue Ridge 300L wood stove (model ESW0008) is the leg-mounted version of Englander's mid-size Blue Ridge 300. It heats 500 to 2,100 sq ft with a maximum heat output of 75,000 BTU/h, takes logs up to 20" and is rated for burn times up to 8 hours. It is EPA 2020 certified at 2.3 g/h emissions, with an average overall efficiency of 72% (HHV) and an optimum efficiency of 79%. Non-catalytic, with a cast iron door frame, ceramic glass with a mountain overlay, a vermiculite baffle and a top heat exchanger that pushes heat out the front. 6" flue outlet, optional 100 CFM blower. Certified for mobile home and alcove installation.

Who the Blue Ridge 300L is for

The 300L fits:

• Ranches, cabins and two-story homes of roughly 1,000 to 2,000 sq ft where the stove sits in the main living area.
• Buyers who prefer the open look of a stove on legs.
• Manufactured (mobile) homes, with the fresh air kit and double-wall pipe the manual requires.

Englander's heating area is the space the stove can keep at a minimum comfortable temperature in a power outage, so insulation, layout and climate all move the real number. For 2,500 sq ft or more, step up to a bigger firebox; for a single room, a smaller stove from our wood stove collection burns cleaner at low output.

Firebox and loading

The firebox has an overall volume of 2.4 cu ft (1.95 cu ft EPA loading volume) and measures about 21" wide, 12" high and 16 1/2" deep. Logs load east-west, side to side across the firebox, up to 20" long. Englander recommends 16" splits, the length used in EPA testing. The door opening is 17 3/8" x 9", behind a single door with a cast iron frame and ceramic glass. One air control under the ash shelf runs the whole stove: slide it left for high fire, right for the lowest burn.

Burn time and heat output

Englander rates the 300L at up to 75,000 BTU/h with a dense load of dry cordwood, and at 14,200 to 44,500 BTU/h overall heat output from low to high burn under EPA test conditions.

The maximum burn time is up to 8 hours. Treat that as the best case; some owners report shorter burns. Wood species, moisture, load size, chimney draft and air setting all matter, and dry hardwood split to 16" with a full east-west load gets you closest to the rating.

Blue Ridge 300L vs. 300P vs. Escape 1800 vs. Blue Ridge 500

The Englander Blue Ridge 300P is the same stove on a pedestal instead of legs. One manual covers both, with the same performance figures and clearances. A few 300L owners mention the legs can wobble on an uneven floor, so set it on a flat, level hearth pad or choose the 300P.

The Drolet Escape 1800 on legs, from sister brand Drolet, lists the same heating area, output, firebox and emissions with different styling. For more heat, the Englander Blue Ridge 500 is the next size up.

Blower option

A blower isn't required; the 300L heats by radiation and natural convection on its own. To push more warm air into adjoining rooms, add the 100 CFM variable-speed blower (AC02050), the blower listed in the Blue Ridge 300L parts list. Pair it with the Quick Connect Thermodisc (AC02055) so it switches on when the stove is hot and off when it cools.

Venting and installation

The 300L has a 6" flue outlet and uses 6" connector pipe. It must connect to a UL 103 HT (2,100°F) factory-built chimney or a code-approved masonry chimney with a liner, at least 12 ft tall. In the USA, double-wall connector pipe lets the stove sit 6" from the rear wall instead of 11" with single-wall pipe; the side wall stays at 22" and the corner at 12". The AC02762 modular wall heat shield cuts those distances further. For a mobile home, Englander forbids single-wall pipe and requires the 5" fresh air intake kit for stoves on legs (AC01211) with insulated intake pipe.

Floor protection

Unless the stove sits on a non-combustible floor such as concrete, it needs a continuous non-combustible ember pad; no R-value is required. In the USA, the pad extends 16" in front of the door opening and 8" to each side, for a protected area of about 31" wide by 37 3/8" deep against a flat wall.
