Overview

🎁 INCLUDED FREE: 4" Round Pellet Stove Brush — for clearing ash from the 4" vent and exhaust passages.

The Drolet ECO-65R pellet stove (model DP00061) is the big pellet heater in Drolet's lineup. It heats 800 to 2,600 sq ft, holds 125 lb of pellets and runs up to 105 hours on one fill. Maximum heat input is 50,800 BTU/h, with an overall heat output of 6,966 to 28,526 BTU/h from low to high. It is EPA 2020 certified at 0.77 g/h, with an average overall efficiency of 76.7% (HHV) and an optimum efficiency of 84.4% (LHV). Automatic ignition, a 500 CFM convection blower, manual or thermostat mode and a 4" pellet vent outlet. Approved for mobile homes with a fresh air kit. Made in Canada by SBI and backed by Drolet's limited lifetime warranty.

Who the ECO-65R is for

Choose the ECO-65R when the pellet stove has to carry a large part of the house and you want to fill it as rarely as possible. It suits:

  • Homes of about 800 to 2,600 sq ft, especially open main floors where the blower can move heat freely.
  • Basements and lower levels that feed heat upstairs.
  • Owners replacing an older large-hopper stove who don't want to drop to a smaller hopper.

Drolet defines the heating area as the space the stove can keep at a minimum comfortable temperature, and climate, insulation and layout all move it. Drolet designs it as a supplementary heat source, so keep your furnace or heat pump as backup.

Hopper size and burn time per hopper

The 125 lb hopper takes three 40 lb bags with room to spare. The burn rate runs from 1.12 lb/h on the lowest setting to 4.63 lb/h on the highest, so a full hopper lasts up to 105 hours on low and roughly a day at full output. Use premium-grade pellets (PFI, ENplus or CANplus); low-quality pellets mean more ash and more frequent cleaning.

Heat range and efficiency

Six heat levels let you match the fire to the weather, from a 6,966 BTU/h idle on a mild day to 28,526 BTU/h of delivered heat on the coldest night. Average particulate emissions are 0.77 g/h, well under the EPA 2020 limit of 2.0 g/h.

Controls, ignition and power

The control panel on the right side sets the mode (off, manual or thermostat), the heat level (1 to 6) and the convection fan (9 speeds). Ignition is automatic; the stove reaches its set heat level 10 to 15 minutes after start-up. Add the digital wall thermostat (AC05558), the thermostat Drolet specifies in the manual, and the stove drops to its lowest setting when the room is warm, then shuts down after 45 minutes with no call for heat. Pilot modes let you keep it idling instead. It plugs into a standard 120 V, 60 Hz grounded outlet and draws about 360 W during ignition and 258 to 348 W while running. Like every pellet stove, it does not run during a power outage.

Venting

The ECO-65R has a 4" flue outlet and is vented with 4" listed pellet vent (UL 641, Type L), or into an existing chimney with a stainless steel liner. Drolet limits the system to 30 ft of equivalent vent length and 9 ft of horizontal run, and wants at least 3 ft of vertical rise, with 1 ft of rise for every foot of horizontal run. For a through-the-wall install, the Vortex 4" Pellet Vent Ground Floor Kit covers the run; the 4" basement kit handles a below-grade stove. Our pellet stove venting guide covers layouts and termination clearances.

Outside air and mobile homes

Outside combustion air is optional in most homes, but the ECO-65R requires a fresh air kit (sold separately) in a mobile home, where it must also be secured to the structure and kept out of bedrooms. Elsewhere, add one if the room can't supply enough combustion air. The stove is not approved for alcove or fireplace installation. Call us for the matching Drolet fresh air kit.

Clearances and floor protection

In the USA, the minimum clearances to combustibles are 3" to the back wall (from the fresh air intake), 6" to a side wall, 3" in a corner and 72" from the base to the ceiling. Drolet recommends 24" at each side and 12" behind for maintenance access. The stove must sit on continuous non-combustible floor protection extending 6" in front of the door and 6" at each side; no R-value is required. Browse our hearth pads and call us to confirm a pad fits this stove's footprint.

Cleaning and heat distribution

A baffle-cleaning rod, a large ash drawer and access traps make routine cleaning tool-free. Rotate the rod daily, then follow the manual's daily, weekly and seasonal schedule for the burn pot, ash drawer, glass and heat exchanger tubes. Drolet recommends an ash vacuum such as our Drolet ash vacuum rather than a household vacuum. To send heat into up to two more rooms, add the Hot Air Plenum Kit (AC01225).

Frequently asked questions

The 125 lb hopper (about three 40 lb bags) runs up to 105 hours on the lowest setting. The burn rate ranges from 1.12 lb/h to 4.63 lb/h, so at full output a full hopper lasts roughly a day. Pellet quality and heat setting change the real numbers.
It has a 4" flue outlet and uses 4" listed pellet vent (UL 641, Type L), or a stainless steel liner in an existing chimney. Keep the system under 30 ft of equivalent vent length and 9 ft of horizontal run, with at least 3 ft of vertical rise and 1 ft of rise per foot of horizontal run. Our Vortex 4" ground floor and basement kits cover a typical through-the-wall install.
Yes. Connect a low-voltage thermostat such as the Drolet-specified digital wall thermostat (AC05558) and select Thermostat mode. The stove runs at your chosen heat level until the room reaches temperature, drops to the lowest level, and by default shuts down after 45 minutes without a call for heat. Pilot modes let you keep it idling instead.
It is approved for mobile (manufactured) homes with a fresh air kit, sold separately. The stove must be attached to the structure and may not be installed in a sleeping room. In a standard house outside air is optional. The ECO-65R is not approved for alcove or fireplace installation.
In the USA: 3" to the back wall (measured from the fresh air intake), 6" to a side wall, 3" in a corner, and 72" from the base of the stove to the ceiling. Drolet recommends leaving 24" at each side and 12" behind for maintenance access.
Section 3.3 (Floor Protection) of the ECO-65R manual (46384A) requires, in the United States, 6" of protection in front of the door opening (E) and 6" at each front side (F). Applied to the stove's 24" width that is a protected area of at least 36" wide by 37 5/8" deep, measured from the 31 5/8" overall depth in Section 1.4. The stove must sit on continuous, grouted, non-combustible material such as ceramic tile, cement board, brick or millboard; no R-value is specified.

We do not currently list a pad for this stove. Our hearth pads are certified for stoves up to 28" deep, and the ECO-65R's cabinet is dimensioned at 28 3/8" deep in Section 1.4 — the manual does not dimension the base plinth separately, so we cannot confirm the stove's floor-contact footprint is inside that certification. Rather than guess, we have left the pads off this listing.

Call us before ordering a pad for this stove and we will confirm the base footprint with Drolet.

I haven’t installed it yet because my current pellet stove uses a 3 inch vent pipe and this uses a 4inch vent pipe. This stove looks way better in person. If it runs half as good as it looks im in for a real treat this coming winter.

ECO-65R: very questionable reliability. New unit on a new 4in chimney and it refuses to run. The system does nothing but start the exhaust blower, then throws a P error for no reason after 5 minutes, even if you bypass the probe — probably a default error when the system doesn't move on to its other steps. So, not intuitive! A Quebec product; they say buying Quebec is better, but I'll think about it before recommending Drolet! (translated from French)

We had a Kozi 100XL from 1996 to 2025 (29 years). We went with a Drolet ECO-65R: bought September 27 2025, delivered November 12 2025, installed November 26 2025 (the exhaust piping had to be updated). It is very different and I have questions about the airflow in general: it doesn't seem to push much warm air, so the heat doesn't spread to the other rooms as easily as my Kozi 100XL did. But it is new. We'll see over time. (translated from French)
