Overview

The Drolet Spark II is one of the most compact wood stoves available, making it a practical choice for cabins, cottages, and small homes. It heats up to 1,200 sq ft with 45,000 BTU/h, is EPA 2020 certified at 1.8 g/h, and features a deep combustion chamber that cuts down on how often you need to empty ashes. A cast iron door with adjustable hinges ensures a tight seal, and ceramic glass with an airwash system keeps the fire visible.

Frequently asked questions

Choosing the right size stove matters for both comfort and efficiency. As a general guide, wood stoves are categorized as small (up to 1,500 sq ft), medium (up to 2,500 sq ft), and large (2,500+ sq ft, or open-floor-plan homes). You'll also want to factor in how well your home is insulated, your ceiling height, your climate, and your floor plan. The Spark II is one of our compact stoves, best suited to smaller spaces.

Not sure what size you need? Use our quick sizing calculator to get a recommendation for your space: Stove Sizing Calculator
The combustion chamber is 11 3/4" inside, and the stove stands 26 3/4" tall including the legs. For the complete dimensioned drawing (overall width, depth, flue position, and clearances), see the official Drolet Spark II dimension sheet here:
https://www.drolet.ca/file/DB03401_Spark_II.pdf
Required clearances to combustible walls depend on your setup — single-wall vs. double-wall connector pipe, and whether a heat shield is used. Double-wall pipe lets the stove sit noticeably closer to back and corner walls. The exact back, side, corner, and ceiling figures are listed in the Specifications section on this page and in the owner's manual. Always confirm the published clearances for your specific configuration and have the installation inspected per local code.
Yes. A hearth pad is required under all wood burning stoves to protect your flooring by insulating against heat and preventing sparks or embers from causing damage. Installing a proper hearth pad helps ensure safety and compliance with building codes.
The Spark II uses a 6" connector and chimney pipe. The full venting requirements are detailed in the owner's manual, available under Product Documents on this page.
Wood stoves require a stove pipe designed for wood burning, which is typically black, to run from a wood stove through the wall or ceiling and into a masonry chimney or into a Class A chimney pipe designed for nontoxic and safe venting of the exhaust gases emitted from a stove burning wood. Selecting good chimney parts contributes to a safe and efficient venting system.
A blower is a nice add-on if you want to move warm air faster and more evenly through the room. Most stoves can run just fine without one, but a blower can help increase heat output and overall efficiency.
No. This model vents out the top only, like most Drolet wood stoves except for the Cape Town.
No. This stove is not approved to be installed within a masonry fireplace or as an insert. It is approved for freestanding installation only. A fireplace is not considered to be an alcove by law.
Yes. This stove is airtight, and the air control is located underneath the ash shelf. To open the air control, push the handle completely to the left (High). This increases the burn rate. To close the air control, push the handle completely to the right (Low). This decreases the burn rate. More information on air control can be found on page 10 of the Installation Manual.
Yes, the top surface can be used for cooking. Just keep in mind that any food or liquid that comes into contact with the surface may cause damage.
The legs are almost 10 inch high.
These stoves are made in Canada by Stove Builder International (SBI). This stove is stocked in the USA and ships from the manufacturer's authorized U.S. distribution facility — no cross-border delays or customs.
The 30% federal biomass stove tax credit (Section 25C), which offered up to $2,000 for qualifying EPA-certified stoves rated at least 75% efficient, was ended early by the 'One Big Beautiful Bill' signed into law in July 2025, and expired on December 31, 2025. There is no federal biomass stove tax credit for purchases in 2026 and onwards. Tax laws change often, so please confirm current credits with a tax professional or the IRS website before purchasing. Some state and local utility programs still offer rebates for efficient heating appliances — check your state energy office as a starting point.

It is very different from the previous stove. The manual is very helpful. The stove is hard to light when cold. It took the installer about an hour to light it the first time.

Seriously the best wood stove I've had the chance to buy! Installed in my hunting camp (16' x 20'), properly insulated, it gives me intense heat at first and well-controlled heat afterward. Simple but very effective air intake control for long slow burns. I highly recommend it! Great product A+++ (translated from French)

I installed the stove in a 32'x32' garage with a 12' ceiling for occasional/supplemental use. It maintains a perfect ambient temperature for my needs. If I have to use it as the main heat during a power outage, I need to refill it every 5 hours to keep the temperature high enough to avoid freezing. (translated from French)

This stove, though small, takes full size wood and is very effective at heating my yurt quickly and burning efficiently. I'm happy with the purchase apart from a small issue with the door latch, for which I am requesting a warranty repair.

Difficult to get a burn going. Fire snuffs out when the door is closed even when we have a decent fire going.

The stove itself arrived already rusted, and the legs are as thin as a BBQ sheet (they barely hold the 215 lb weight of the stove). (translated from French)

I have this woodstove that I bought brand new been having issues with the woodstove for months now. Contacted the company many times. They keep telling me it's the length of the pipe should be 12 feet. I purchased 12 feet of new pipe and the woodstove is still not drawing properly. Disappointed with the customer service.

Stove is very nice. Customer service not so much. Damper doesn't work and customer service sent me a video on how combustion works. I asked for schematic or something after explaining I was a fireman for 10 years and heated with wood my whole life. My damper still doesn't work and I haven't heard back.

Visibly the shipping carton appeared okay, but only a couple of staples were holding down the flaps on top. The top of the stove had a couple of scuff marks. After opening the carton the next morning we couldn't believe the packaging. With no protection, the fire bricks were just tossed in the firebox. There were two firebricks broken in half and two vermiculite bricks broken. Contacted the vendor about replacement.
