Pellet Stove Prices 2026: What a Pellet Stove Costs, Installed

Updated October 2026
No Sales Tax in any state. On a $2,399 pellet stove at a 7% sales tax rate, that is $168 you keep before you have spent anything on venting.
Pellet stove prices are easy to find for value brands and hard to find for dealer brands, and almost nobody adds up the rest of the job. This guide does both: what every pellet stove we sell costs, what the dealer-only brands run, and what a pellet stove costs once it is vented, on a hearth pad and burning.
The short answer
A new EPA-certified pellet stove costs about $1,100 to $2,800 from a value brand like ComfortBilt, $2,800 to $4,900 for long-burn or premium models, and roughly $2,500 to $6,000+ from dealer-only brands like Harman and Quadra-Fire. That is the stove alone. Venting, a hearth pad and installation usually add $700 to $3,500 on top, depending on how much of the work you do yourself.

Heating areas are manufacturer maximums for mild conditions; size up for a cold climate or a drafty house. Our best pellet stoves guide ranks these by the job each one does best, and the ComfortBilt lineup comparison covers output and efficiency model by model.
Stove and hearth pad combos
Most installs on a wood or vinyl floor need a hearth pad, so five ComfortBilt models come bundled with one for less than buying separately:
| Combo | Price | Saves |
|---|---|---|
| HP50S + hearth pad | $2,199 | $249 |
| HP21 + hearth pad | $2,399 | $99 |
| HP61 + hearth pad | $2,599 | $249 |
| HP22 + hearth pad | $2,699 | $249 |
| HP22N + hearth pad | $2,999 | $149 |
Dealer-only brands: what they cost
Harman, Quadra-Fire, Enviro and St. Croix sell through local dealers and mostly bundle the stove into an installed quote. Published dealer prices put most of their freestanding pellet stoves at roughly $2,500 to $6,000 for the stove alone, with flagship models higher. We are not a dealer for these brands. Our head-to-head comparisons show where the premium goes and which of our stoves matches each one:

- Quadra-Fire vs ComfortBilt
- Enviro vs ComfortBilt
- St. Croix vs ComfortBilt
Big-box stores sell pellet stoves under $1,500 from brands like US Stove, Ashley and PelPro. The differences are hopper size, build and how output is advertised; see Ashley vs ComfortBilt and PelPro vs ComfortBilt. ComfortBilt's Alpine line now meets them at the same price; our guides to cheap pellet stoves and to pellet stoves at Tractor Supply, Home Depot and Lowe's compare them.
What a pellet stove costs installed

Pellet stoves are cheaper to install than wood stoves because they vent through small 3" or 4" pipe, usually straight out a wall, with no masonry chimney or Class A chimney needed. Budget four items:
| Item | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| The stove | $1,099 – $4,899 |
| Venting kit (through the wall) | $429 – $629 |
| Hearth pad, if your floor is combustible | $189 – $769, or less in a combo |
| Professional installation | About $500 – $2,000; more with a long or vertical vent run |
The ComfortBilt 3" DuraVent pellet vent kit ($429) covers a standard through-the-wall ComfortBilt install, and the Vortex 3" ground floor kit ($629) fits any stove with a 3" exhaust. Drolet sells the ECO-55 with its own factory ground floor or basement venting kit. For a mobile home, add the DuraVent wall thimble and outside air kit.
A worked example: the HP22 + hearth pad combo at $2,699 plus the $429 vent kit comes to $3,128 in parts, delivered, with No Sales Tax. A handy owner can install that; a pro adds labor on top. The full job is walked through in our pellet stove installation guide, and the venting options in the pellet stove venting guide.
What it costs to run
Bagged pellets typically sell for about $5 to $8 per 40-lb bag, or roughly $250 to $400 a ton. A pellet stove used as the main heat source in a cold climate commonly burns two to three tons a season; one heating a living area alongside a furnace burns less. At three tons and $300 a ton, that is about $900 for the winter.
Whether that beats your current fuel depends on what you pay for it. Our pellet stove vs propane comparison works out the cost per million BTU at different prices, including where propane still wins. If you are weighing wood against pellets, see pellet stove vs wood stove.
What makes one pellet stove cost more than another
- Hopper size. This is the biggest day-to-day difference. A 40-lb hopper means near-daily filling in deep winter; the ECO-65R's 125-lb hopper runs up to 105 hours per fill.
- Output and coverage. Stoves rated for 3,000 sq ft cost more than 2,400 sq ft models, but only buy the output you need; a pellet stove idling on its lowest setting all winter burns less cleanly.
- Build and finish. Cast cabinets, enamel colors and vermiculite-lined fireboxes, as on the HP75C, add cost without adding heat.
- Dealer margin. A showroom and an installation crew are built into dealer-brand pricing.
Is there a tax credit for pellet stoves in 2026?
No. The federal 25C biomass stove credit (30%, up to $2,000) expired on December 31, 2025. Some search results and AI answers still quote it; it does not apply to a stove bought and installed in 2026. Some states and utilities run their own rebates, so check locally. Our stove tax credit guide covers what's left, including state and local programs.
