Overview

The Drolet Escape 1800 on Pedestal delivers powerful, efficient heat for large open-plan homes, covering up to 2,100 sq ft with 75,000 BTU/h of output. At 77% efficiency and EPA 2020-certified emissions of just 1.54 g/h, it combines high performance with clean burning. Built-in side panels cut clearances to combustibles, and the top heat exchanger pushes heat forward into the room rather than letting it rise to the ceiling.

  • Heats up to 2,100 sq ft with 75,000 BTU/h maximum output
  • EPA 2020 certified at 1.54 g/h average particulate emissions
  • 77% overall efficiency rating

  • Accepts logs up to 20" — east-west loading
  • Side panels reduce clearances to combustible materials

  • Heavy duty 5/16" steel top with stainless steel heat shield
  • Certified for mobile home and alcove installation

Frequently asked questions

The Escape 1800 is rated for up to 2,100 sq ft with a maximum output of 75,000 BTU/h, making it one of the larger stoves in the Drolet lineup. Real-world coverage depends on your insulation, ceiling height, floor plan, and climate zone. In a well-sealed modern home it can comfortably heat the full rated area; in an older or drafty house, plan for roughly 1,200–1,600 sq ft of effective heat. For an open-concept layout it performs best, since heat can move freely between rooms.

Not sure what size you need? Use our quick sizing calculator to get a recommendation for your space: Stove Sizing Calculator
You can view the exact dimensions in the official Drolet Escape 1800 dimension drawing here:
https://www.drolet.ca/file/DB03102_Escape%201800%20%28porte%20noire%29.pdf
The dimension drawing is also the last image in the product photo gallery on this page (click to zoom in for a closer look at the measurements), and the key dimensions are listed in the Specifications section below.
The Escape 1800 has built-in side panels that significantly reduce its clearances to combustible walls, which is one of its key advantages for tighter installations. Exact clearance figures (back, side, and corner) are listed in the Specifications section on this page and in the owner's manual. It is also certified for both mobile home and alcove installation. Always confirm the published clearances for your specific configuration before installing, and have the install inspected per local code.
The Escape 1800 uses a 6" diameter flue outlet and requires a 6" insulated class-A chimney system (or an approved listed chimney). For best draft and performance, follow the minimum chimney height guidelines in the owner's manual. If you're replacing an existing stove, confirm your current chimney is 6" and in good condition; if you're starting from scratch, your installer can spec the full venting kit.
A blower is not included as standard, but two optional add-ons are available and listed under "What else you'll need" on this page: a variable-speed blower (up to 130 CFM) for adjustable forced-air circulation, and a heat-operated fan (178 CFM) that runs on the stove's own heat with no electricity. Many owners add the Quick Connect Thermodisc so the blower switches on automatically once the stove reaches temperature.
The Escape 1800 delivers up to 8 hours of burn time on a full load, thanks to its 2.4 ft³ EPA loading volume. For overnight burns, load it with well-seasoned hardwood and set the air control low once the fire is established.
Yes. The Escape 1800 is EPA 2020 certified with average particulate emissions of just 1.54 g/h — well under the 2.5 g/h standard — and carries a 77% overall efficiency rating. That combination means cleaner burning and more usable heat from each load of wood compared with older non-certified stoves.
The Escape 1800 ships freight on a pallet and currently leaves the warehouse in about 1–3 business days. Because it's a heavy freight item, delivery is curbside by default — the carrier will contact you to schedule a delivery appointment. We recommend inspecting the pallet for any shipping damage before signing for it, and noting any concerns on the delivery receipt.
The 30% federal biomass stove tax credit (Section 25C) was ended early by the "One Big Beautiful Bill" signed in July 2025, and expired on December 31, 2025 — so there is no federal biomass stove tax credit for purchases in 2026 and onwards. Tax laws change often; confirm current credits with a tax professional or the IRS website before purchasing. Some state and local utility programs still offer rebates for efficient heating appliances — check your state energy office.
They're corporate siblings from SBI in the same 2.4 ft³ / 75,000 BTU/h class, with the same 20" log capacity and 8-hour burn. The Escape 1800 burns cleaner (1.54 vs 2.3 g/h), runs more efficiently (77% vs 72% HHV), and carries a Limited Lifetime warranty versus 5 years — and the FW2900 has been discontinued by Century. After a month of daily burning we're very satisfied with our new woodstove. Dry wood catches quickly and the instructions helped guide us to the best ways to start and keep a fire going in different temperature ranges. Stove workmanship is quality and we anticipate using it for a long time.

Stove seems very nice. However, the finish on the front of the stove was scratched off in places after removing it from the packaging. This is very disappointing after paying over $1500 after taxes.

After the second small fire, the part where the door gasket ends meet got stuck on the stove and it now damaged. It's a beautiful stove and looking forward to it heating our home. Was not expecting the door gasket to get damaged already after a couple small fires. Now we can't use it until it's repaired.

March 24, 2024
After retiring a Vermont Casting stove of over 25 years, I purchased the Drolet Escape 1800 in Fall 2021. Running my stove 24/7 from November through April, I wanted a stove I could load up to burn through the night. Impressed with the ease of loading large pieces of wood and the large front glass, however the design for cleaning out the stove is not very efficient. The 'plug' at the bottom is cumbersome to push the ash without losing many embers. I resort to sifting through the embers and hand cleaning every couple of days. The burn time is not what I am used to, but it does produce a significant amount of heat. For the price I am happy, but because of cleaning design, I am not sure I would purchase again.
