Overview

🎁 INCLUDED FREE: Magnetic Stove Thermometer and 50 Fire Starters — everything you need for your first fire.

The Drolet Escape 1800 wood stove on legs with brushed nickel door (model DB03112) is the dressed-up version of the mid-to-large heater in Drolet's Escape line. It heats 500 to 2,100 sq ft with a maximum heat output of 75,000 BTU/h, takes logs up to 20" and is rated for burn times up to 8 hours. It is EPA 2020 certified at 2.3 g/h emissions, with an average overall efficiency of 72% (HHV) and an optimum overall efficiency of 79%. Cast iron legs with an ash drawer, a brushed nickel overlay on the cast iron door frame, a 5/16" steel top, a top heat exchanger that pushes heat into the room and side panels that cut wall clearances.

Brushed nickel door vs. black door

The brushed nickel door is purely a styling choice. The firebox, output, burn time, emissions, clearances and accessories are identical to the Escape 1800 on legs with black door (DB03105), and the same stove also comes on a pedestal with black door (DB03102). Choose the nickel door if you want a lighter accent that picks up stainless or nickel hardware in the room; choose black if you want the stove to read as one piece and save $80; compare the ship dates shown on each page. Overall size is the same on legs: about 26 1/8" wide, 25 7/8" deep and 30 1/4" high.

Size, firebox and burn time

The Escape 1800 is sized for homes of about 1,000 to 2,100 sq ft, ideally open plans where heat can travel from the living room into a kitchen, hallway or stairwell. Drolet's heating area assumes a power outage and a minimum comfortable temperature, so insulation, layout and climate all move it; for a single room under about 1,000 sq ft, a smaller model from our wood stove collection will burn cleaner.

The firebox holds 2.4 cu ft overall (1.95 cu ft EPA loading volume) and takes logs up to 20" loaded east-west; Drolet recommends 16" splits, the length used in its EPA testing. The door opening is 17 1/2" x 9", with ceramic glass kept clear by an airwash. Under EPA test conditions the overall heat output runs from 14,200 to 44,500 BTU/h, low to high, and Drolet rates the maximum at 75,000 BTU/h with a dense load of dry cordwood. The 8-hour maximum burn time is a best case; dry hardwood and a full east-west load get you closest.

Escape 1800 vs. Blue Ridge 300L vs. Escape 2100

The Englander Blue Ridge 300L is built on the same SBI platform and its manual lists the same performance figures. The real difference is installation: the Escape 1800's side panels let it sit 16" from a side wall, where the Blue Ridge 300L needs 22" (USA), and its double-wall corner clearance is 7" versus 12". If you need more stove, the Drolet Escape 2100 steps up to a bigger firebox and longer burns.

Blower option

A blower isn't required; the Escape 1800 heats by radiation and natural convection on its own. To move more warm air into adjoining rooms, add the Drolet 130 CFM variable-speed blower (AC03095), the blower listed in the Escape 1800 parts list (the smaller 100 CFM AC02050 does not fit this stove). Pair it with the Quick Connect Thermodisc (AC02055) so it switches on when the stove is hot and off when it cools.

Venting and installation

The Escape 1800 has a 6" flue outlet and uses 6" connector pipe. It must connect to a UL 103 HT (2,100°F) factory-built chimney or a code-approved masonry chimney with a flue liner, at least 12 ft tall. See our wood stove chimney and stovepipe guide and 6" stove pipe kits. In the USA, double-wall connector pipe lets the stove sit 6" from the rear wall instead of 11" with single-wall pipe; adding the AC02762 modular wall heat shield with double-wall pipe brings it to 3" rear, 4" side and 3" corner. See the clearance table below. For a mobile home, Drolet requires a fresh air kit and forbids single-wall pipe; the leg model uses the 5" fresh air intake kit for stoves on legs (AC01211).

Floor protection

Unless the stove sits on a non-combustible floor such as concrete, it needs a continuous non-combustible ember pad; no R-value is required. In the USA, the pad extends 16" in front of the door opening and 8" to each side. Shop our hearth pads; the 46 3/4" x 54" pads shown with this stove cover its footprint plus the required extensions.

Frequently asked questions

The Escape 1800 is rated for up to 2,100 sq ft with a maximum output of 75,000 BTU/h, making it one of the larger stoves in the Drolet lineup. Real-world coverage depends on your insulation, ceiling height, floor plan, and climate zone. In a well-sealed modern home it can comfortably heat the full rated area; in an older or drafty house, plan for roughly 1,200–1,600 sq ft of effective heat. For an open-concept layout it performs best, since heat can move freely between rooms.

The Escape 1800 on legs with brushed nickel door (DB03112) measures about 26 1/8" wide, 25 7/8" deep and 30 1/4" high. You can view the exact figures in the official Drolet dimension drawing for this model here:
https://www.drolet.ca/file/DB03112_Escape%201800%20sur%20pattes.pdf
The key dimensions, door opening (17 1/2" x 9") and firebox volume are also listed in the Specifications section on this page.
In the USA, with single-wall connector pipe the Escape 1800 needs 11" to the rear wall, 16" to a side wall and 10" in a corner. With double-wall connector pipe the rear clearance drops to 6" and the corner to 7" (side stays 16"). Adding the certified AC02762 wall heat shield with double-wall pipe brings it to 3" rear, 4" side and 3" corner. Minimum floor-to-ceiling height is 84". The brushed nickel and black door versions share the same clearances. These figures are from section 3 of the owner's manual; always follow the manual for your exact setup (alcove and mobile home installs have their own figures) and have the install inspected per local code.
The Escape 1800 has a 6" flue outlet and uses 6" connector pipe. It must vent into a UL 103 HT (2,100°F) factory-built chimney or a code-approved masonry chimney with a flue liner, at least 12 ft tall. If you're replacing an existing stove, confirm your current chimney is 6" and in good condition; if you're starting from scratch, see our wood stove chimney and stovepipe guide: https://stovesource.com/blogs/guides/wood-stove-chimney-pipe-guide
A blower is not included as standard, but two optional add-ons are available and listed under "What else you'll need" on this page: a variable-speed blower (up to 130 CFM) for adjustable forced-air circulation, and a heat-operated fan (178 CFM) that runs on the stove's own heat with no electricity. Many owners add the Quick Connect Thermodisc so the blower switches on automatically once the stove reaches temperature.
Drolet rates the Escape 1800 for up to 8 hours of burn time. The firebox is 2.4 ft³ overall (1.95 ft³ EPA loading volume) and takes logs up to 20" loaded east-west, with 16" splits recommended. For the longest burns, load it full with well-seasoned hardwood and turn the air control down once the fire is established.
Yes. The Escape 1800 is EPA 2020 certified with average particulate emissions of 2.3 g/h, under the 2.5 g/h limit. Its average overall efficiency is 72% (HHV) or 77% (LHV), with an optimum overall efficiency of 79%. That means cleaner burning and more usable heat from each load of wood than older non-certified stoves.
Only the door finish. The DB03112 has a brushed nickel overlay on the cast iron door frame; the DB03105 has a black door. Both sit on cast iron legs with an ash drawer, and heating area, output, firebox, burn time, emissions, clearances and accessories (including the AC01211 fresh air kit) are the same. The black door model costs $80 less: Drolet escape 1800 wood stove black door on legs
The Escape 1800 ships free by LTL freight on a pallet to the lower 48. The current ship estimate is shown next to the price on this page and updates daily. Once it leaves the warehouse, transit is typically 3–10 business days, and the carrier will contact you to schedule a curbside delivery appointment. Inspect the pallet for shipping damage before signing and note any concerns on the delivery receipt.
The 30% federal biomass stove tax credit (Section 25C) was ended early by the "One Big Beautiful Bill" signed in July 2025, and expired on December 31, 2025 — so there is no federal biomass stove tax credit for purchases in 2026 and onwards. Tax laws change often; confirm current credits with a tax professional or the IRS website before purchasing. Some state and local utility programs still offer rebates for efficient heating appliances — check your state energy office.
They're corporate siblings from SBI in the same class: both are rated for 2,100 sq ft and 75,000 BTU/h, with a 2.4 ft³ firebox, 20" logs, an 8-hour burn and 2.3 g/h emissions. The practical differences are the base and finish (the FW2900 sits on a pedestal with a black door; this Escape 1800 is on cast iron legs with a brushed nickel door), the warranty terms (the Escape 1800 carries Drolet's limited lifetime warranty) and the ship date shown on each product page. After a month of daily burning we're very satisfied with our new woodstove. Dry wood catches quickly and the instructions helped guide us to the best ways to start and keep a fire going in different temperature ranges. Stove workmanship is quality and we anticipate using it for a long time.

After the second small fire, the part where the door gasket ends meet got stuck on the stove and it now damaged. It's a beautiful stove and looking forward to it heating our home. Was not expecting the door gasket to get damaged already after a couple small fires. Now we can't use it until it's repaired.

March 24, 2024
After retiring a Vermont Casting stove of over 25 years, I purchased the Drolet Escape 1800 in Fall 2021. Running my stove 24/7 from November through April, I wanted a stove I could load up to burn through the night. Impressed with the ease of loading large pieces of wood and the large front glass, however the design for cleaning out the stove is not very efficient. The 'plug' at the bottom is cumbersome to push the ash without losing many embers. I resort to sifting through the embers and hand cleaning every couple of days. The burn time is not what I am used to, but it does produce a significant amount of heat. For the price I am happy, but because of cleaning design, I am not sure I would purchase again.
