This medium sized wood stove throws a lot of heat. We bought it primarily as a backup heat source for when our power is out. Based on our initial fires, it should have no issues keeping the main living area comfortable. I really like the looks of it in the corner of our living room, and the glass door provides a beautiful view of the fire. Compared to three other stoves I have used, I would definitely recommend this one.

Impressive stove. Learning curve was easy with this stove. As with any stove, seasoned wood gives the best results, although we had good success with wood that was only seasoned a few months. One thing that was very important to us and I've never seen anyone comment about, is the heat shields that allow stove to be placed relatively close to combustible walls. I've done research and Drolet has the market on close clearances feature. Stove is easy to start. No smoke when door is opened. No peeling paint. Drafts great. Any negative reviews about slow starting, poor draft, ext.,most likely are due to installation issues or unseasoned wood.

After about a month of use my door will not open and close properly. The bottom pin is defective. It heats the house well but there is not much room on top to place a pan/pot.

The Drolet Escape 1500 is a good stove for people who like efficient wood stoves that burn a small, or perhaps medium amount of firewood. I don't think that you could heat more than 500 square feet with this heat source alone, but it has been great heating that much even in temps close to or under zero. Enough to have to open windows to maintain a comfortable temperature when it's 32F out. I prefer N/S loading it with around 10" split logs and topping that with full width split logs (16" perhaps). If I had to buy another stove to heat an entire house I would buy something from Drolet with a 16x16 firebox instead. The stove is very high quality and functions as advertized if you account for all the variables burning wood has.

Our old stove was no longer useable so the new stove just needed to be placed and the chimney attached.. When we got home with the stove, the pedestal was bent. It was about 1/2" out on the front left and back right when facing the stove. We repaired this. The stove burns very nice. Everything works great. I did notify Dwayne at Castle Building Centres in Evansburg and showed him the pictures.

Excellent rapport qualité-prix, le Escape 1500 est très efficace et il est facile à contrôler. Lorsque l'entrée d'air est réglée au plus bas, il brule très lentement sans rien laisser. La chambre de combustion est relativement petite, mais la grosseur est parfaite comme chauffage d'appoint dans un bungalow standard de 1200 pieds carrés, plus gros serait trop. La qualité de fabrication est irréprochable. Un excellent produit de Drolet.

Bought Escape 1500 30 days ago. Where do I start. The stove does not let enough fresh air in to let the fire burn well. Does not burn wood fully as it leaves a stove full of large chunks of charcoal when done. Also it does not have a front lip to keep burning log pieces from coming out when you open the door. Not happy at all.

Used for 2 winters now in Zone 5 and we go through only about 2 cords to heat 2000sqft. After packing for night the house never dropped below 65F when we woke in the morning. We just had chimney swept and it produced about a pint of carbon and our wood is all a mix of piñon and juniper. Favorite part - never get smoke or soot floating out when we open door to feed the fire. It is the cleanest stove we've ever had.

The horizontal pin which prevents the handle from completing full rotations fell out. It looked like it was glued by the paint. I believe this would be item 30101. The vertical pin which provides for the latch detent when the cam roller (barrel shaped) engages and holds proper closure was absolutely missing. The door latch keeper cannot perform its function. Very dissatified.

2 years review with 40 years of heating with wood stoves... Hinge broke in first month. Paint peeling on multiple spots. Burning very inefficient and short even with good well seasoned wood and doesn't even give much heat. We heat not very big apartment and it barely does it.. I'd say only good thing is ash tray under. We are very disappointed with this stove and will be changing it very soon as we had enough... Sorry but there's work to be done on this model.

We did alot of research looking for just the right stove. Not a ton of reviews on the Drolet Escape 1500 stoves. Ours was delivered with a damaged door gasket. Unfortunately I did not see this until after our old stove was removed and new stove installed. Going to be some very cold nights until Drolet sends me out a new gasket/glue under warranty. Other than that, it is a beautiful wood burning stove! Unbelievable heavy. We are very excited to use it and can promise we will be hugging it until we get warmed up.

So far, I've followed the process stated in the owners manual for curing the paint correctly. Smaller fires followed by progressively larger fires. I must say I'm surprised by the low output of heat. My old woodstove was a model from the early 80s and while it was certainly inefficient it really threw out a lot more heat, more quickly. In less than 30 minutes I could feel lot's of heat coming up through the grille in the hallway of my home with the old stove. Not so with this new one and my home is under 1200 square feet.

Great stove, lights easily, does a good job of dispersing the heat into the space and burns everything to ash. Have been using for four days and very satisfied with its performance. Useful Installation and Operating Manual though it could include more about the optional blower (including minimum rear clearance needed when installed against a non-combustible wall) and guidance on use of stove top fans.

It was very expensive to install. We bought double wall, insulated pipe and chimney and had it inspected after it was installed. The place where we got the pipe and chimney sells Drolet (The Fire Escape), but we wanted the 1500 because we have a small house...It looks great and we can't wait to use it.

The door is not closing tightly which resulted in the breakage of the small part on the door latch. The door only opens about 45 degrees and it seems the hinge was not set properly. I ordered the door latch part earlier today, believing that I broke it. It seems the cause of the extra force was due to improperly fitting door. Very happy with the service from eFireplaceStore.com. My order was received halfway across the country in less time than estimated. The Fed-Ex delivery employee was fantastic. The stove was set up in my uninsulated 450 sq ft work shop. Yesterday with a strong wind and the outside air temp no higher than 30 degrees F., the interior shop temp was 70 degrees F. It took a couple of hours from a very cold start to raise the temp above 50 degrees F. Not a problem as I don't want the shop tool warm. Regardless, I will insulate only the cathedral ceiling with R-10 rigid insulation and fully expect the small stove to provide adequate heat in the coldest conditions. The stove is well built, no shipping damage of any sort, and ready to attach to the 6" single wall stove pipe. Remember, you'll need the double lined stove pipe adapter if upgrading to double walled stove pipe.

Absolutely beautiful little stove. Priced well and highly recommend so far. I have not burned in it yet, as I am awaiting an insurance inspection prior to usage, but seems just great so far and highly recommended online, based on reviews of the 1800 model.

THIS IS A GREAT STOVE, WE ARE USING IT FOR OUR GARAGE, THAT IS 2400 SF WITH 12 FT PEAK. THIS IS A MUCH BETTER ALTURNATIVE TO A UNIT THAT IS 3 TIMES THE COST WITH ALL THE SAME AND LOOKS GREAT WORKS GREAK AND EASY TO PUT IN.

We installed the escape 1500. It is a very nice looking heater. The problem we are having is that it will not shut down. Even when the draft is closed. Adjusted the door and it only made it worse. Readjust back to first set and did not make an difference. No matter what you do you can not open the door with getting smoke in the room.

Nous somme Tres heureux de notre poêle escape 1500 bon rendement et autonomie. Le seule bémol cest que nous n'avons pas vue le poêle en demo. Seulment sur papiers de montre . Nous somme un peu déçu de la grosseurs de la chambre a combustion jai du refendre tous mon bois . Je la trouve limite petite, Mais sinon #1 rendement impecable bonne chaleur installé au sous sol . There's a trick to lighting this stove. So far I've filled the house full of smoke when the chimneys cold, once the fire is going it seems to work well. I'm told by the dealer if I had an insulated chimney, instead of my brick I wouldn't have a big of a problem.

I originally looked for a box stove (maybe even antique) that could use full length pieces of firewood. After learning about the Drolet Escape 1500 product at the store where I bought it and sending a picture to my wife, the decision was made quickly that this is the right product and also allows viewing the fire in my new office at home. The manufacturer's rebate promotion was the icing on the cake.
