Which gasket is leaking?

  • Door: close a dollar bill in the door and pull. If it slides out easily anywhere, the door gasket has failed.
  • Hopper lid and ash pan door: check them the same way. Both are sealed on most pellet stoves.
  • Combustion blower and exhaust: soot around the blower housing or a smoke smell at the stove points to the blower or exhaust gasket.
  • Vent pipe joints: the exhaust side is under positive pressure, so a leaking joint pushes flue gas into the room. The 3" pellet vent pipe gasket kit seals six joints.
