Pellet Stove Vacuum Switches

Pellet stove vacuum switches and the hoses and wires that go with them. The vacuum switch shuts the stove down when it does not sense draft from the exhaust blower, so a bad switch, a cracked hose or a blocked vent all cause the same shutdown. Before you replace the vacuum switch

The switch itself is rarely the first thing to fail. In order, check:

  1. The hose. A cracked, kinked or loose hose between the switch and the firebox is the most common cause.
  2. The vent and exhaust path. Ash in the exhaust port, a blocked vent cap or a dirty exhaust blower reduce draft below the switch setting. Clean them out.
  3. The door and hopper lid seals. A leaking door gasket lets air in and reduces vacuum.
  4. The exhaust blower. If it is slow or not running, there is no vacuum to sense.
  5. The switch. Only after the above check out.

Englander owners: an E-1 code (25-PDVC, 25-PDV) means vacuum loss. See the Englander pellet stove error code chart and the Englander exhaust blower. ComfortBilt owners: see vacuum faults in our ComfortBilt problems and fixes guide, and the ComfortBilt exhaust blower.
