England's Stove Works: The Company Behind Englander Stoves
Share
If you own an Englander stove, a Summers Heat, or a Timber Ridge, they all came out of the same factory in Monroe, Virginia — England's Stove Works. Most owners search the brand on the badge and never find the company behind it, which makes parts, warranty and model identification harder than it needs to be.
Here is who they are, what they build, and the ownership change in 2022 that a lot of owners still do not know about.

The company
England's Stove Works was started in 1976 by Robert England, who built his first stove to heat his own welding workshop. His sons Ron and Scott — a welder and a machinist — joined him, and the business was founded literally in the family's backyard in Monroe, Virginia. It incorporated in 1977 and has been building stoves there ever since.
The operation today runs a 100,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Monroe, plus an on-site burn laboratory that has been doubled in size — an unusual thing for a stove company to own outright, and the reason their emissions and efficiency figures are developed in house rather than farmed out.
The four brands
This is where most of the confusion comes from. One factory, four badges:
| Brand | Where you find it |
|---|---|
| Englander | The flagship line — the Blue Ridge wood stoves, the 25-CBPAH pellet stove, inserts. Sold through hearth retailers and online dealers |
| Summers Heat | The big-box and DIY-store line. ESW says Summers Heat is at more US dealers than any of their brands |
| Timber Ridge | Sold through smaller independent dealers and established merchants across the US and Canada |
| Survivor | Outdoor and lifestyle products — camp stoves, outdoor fireplaces, grills |
The practical consequence: a Summers Heat and a Timber Ridge are frequently the same appliance as an Englander with a different badge and model prefix. If you are hunting parts or trying to identify what you own, our Summers Heat and Timber Ridge guide explains how to read the model numbers across the three.
The 2022 acquisition most owners missed
On April 1, 2022, England's Stove Works was acquired by Stove Builder International (SBI) — the Quebec manufacturer, itself a subsidiary of Empire Group. The announcement came out of Belleville, Illinois, with Empire Comfort Systems president Nick Bauer citing Englander's then-46-year history of American manufacturing.
Two things about that matter to you as an owner or buyer.
The Virginia operation continued. ESW's Monroe facilities became SBI factories and kept building and marketing the same products under the same four brands. This was not a brand being bought and moved offshore — SBI's stated reason for the purchase was adding US production capacity, which it had wanted for some time.
Englander and Drolet are now siblings. SBI is the same company that builds Drolet, Osburn, Enerzone and Century Heating. So the two brands we stock most heavily now come from one parent, which is why you will see similar engineering thinking across both ranges. Our guide to the SBI brand family lays out which brand sits at which price tier and what actually differs between them.

What they build now
The current Englander wood range is the Blue Ridge series — the compact Blue Ridge 100 N, the mid-size 300L and 300P, and the large 500, which runs a 3.5 cu ft firebox on 22-inch logs with up to 10-hour burns and coverage to 2,700 sq ft. On the pellet side, the 25-CBPAH carries a 120 lb hopper rated to 75 hours per fill, with the outside air kit included and mobile home approval.
For wall tents and ice shacks, ESW's Survivor line is the Cub, Black Bear and Grizzly camp stoves, sold as the Cub Camp Stove Kit ($429), Black Bear Camp Stove Kit ($449) or Grizzly Camp Stove Kit ($499). See all tent stoves.

If you own an older one
ESW discontinued a number of long-running models, and owners of the 30-NC, 25-PDVC, NC-30, 13-NC, Madison and 17-VL come looking for replacements constantly. Two guides cover the mapping: discontinued Englander models and their replacements, and a dedicated piece on the 30-NC and what replaced it.
ESW still runs its own tech support and parts lines out of Monroe. Have your model and serial number ready — with four brands and decades of production, the model number is what identifies your appliance, not the badge on the front.

Why people buy them
ESW's stated aim from the first stove was a quality product at an affordable price, with operation and maintenance kept as simple as possible. That is still what the range delivers, and it is why Englander stoves have a reputation among people who service their own equipment: there is not much on them that a competent owner cannot diagnose and fix.
If American manufacturing is a purchase criterion, this is one of the few hearth brands where the factory, the family name and the town are all still the same ones from 1976.
