The Englander 30-NC (also written NC-30 or NC30) earned a reputation over two decades as one of the strongest value propositions in wood heat: a large 3.5 cu ft non-catalytic firebox, serious overnight burns, and a price hundreds below comparable stoves. It sold under three badges — Englander (independent dealers), Summers Heat (Lowe's), and Timber Ridge — all the same stove underneath.

Why the 30-NC Was Discontinued
The 30-NC was designed for an earlier generation of EPA emission standards. When the EPA 2020 Step 2 rules took effect (2.0–2.5 g/h limits), manufacturers across the industry retired older designs rather than re-engineer them. The 30-NC family — including the smaller 13-NC — reached the end of the line as the Englander lineup was redesigned from the ground up.
Remaining new-old-stock units sold out years ago. What circulates now is the used market — workable if you find a clean one, but you inherit worn firebrick, baffles, and gaskets with no warranty.
The Direct Successor: Englander Blue Ridge 500
Today's Englander lineup is built around the Blue Ridge series, and the Blue Ridge 500 (ESW0012) occupies exactly the slot the 30-NC held: the big-firebox, non-catalytic workhorse.

Same firebox class, same non-catalytic simplicity, longer published burn time, cleaner combustion, and wider log loading. Owners upgrading from a 30-NC will find the operating logic familiar — load, set the single air control, walk away.
What About the 13-NC and Summers Heat Models?
- 13-NC owners: the smaller firebox class maps to the current mid-size Englander models — see the Blue Ridge 300P and 300L, or call to size correctly rather than defaulting to the 500.
- Summers Heat / Timber Ridge owners: these were retail-channel badges on the same stoves. There is no separate "Summers Heat" successor — the Blue Ridge series is the continuation for all three badge lines.
