All Nighter Wood Stoves: The Moe Line, Parts and Replacements
Share
All Nighter Stove Works ran out of 80 Commerce Street in Glastonbury, Connecticut, founded in the mid-1970s by a former Fisher dealer who thought he could build a better box. The trademark filings run from 1977 through the early 1980s. The stoves were heavy plate steel, firebrick lined, with air circulation tubes running through the stepped top — and the cast door carried a picture of a boy riding a log.
That boy is Moe, and he's why the whole line is named after him.

The model range
| Model | Fuel | Log length | Period coverage claim |
|---|---|---|---|
| Little Moe | Wood | Short | Small rooms, cabins |
| Mid Moe | Wood | ~24" firebox depth | 2,200+ sq ft |
| Big Moe | Wood | 28" straight in | 3,000 sq ft (22,500 cu ft) |
| Mighty Moe | Wood | — | Later addition to the line |
| Overnighter | Wood | — | Fireplace insert version |
| Pudgy Glo / Slim Glo / Cozy Glo | Coal | — | The coal side of the line |
A Mid Moe runs roughly 36" long including ash pan and flue collar, 31" tall, 21½" wide, with a 6" flue straight out the back and two damper knobs. If yours has a UL tag riveted to the ash pan, that's original.
Those coverage numbers were measured in cubic feet in period literature — Big Moe's "22,500 cu ft" is where the 3,000 sq ft figure comes from, assuming 8 ft ceilings. Treat them as marketing from an era with no standardised test, not as specifications.
If yours is a Glo, read this first
The Pudgy Glo, Slim Glo and Cozy Glo are coal stoves. We don't sell coal stoves, and no EPA certified wood stove substitutes for one — different grates, different air path, different fuel handling entirely. If you're committed to burning coal, a modern wood stove is not your answer and we'd rather tell you than sell you the wrong appliance.
If you're open to switching fuels, the rest applies. Most remaining coal-stove owners do switch eventually, because household coal supply has become genuinely difficult across most of the country. The same question comes up for Warm Morning and Atlanta Homesteader owners, and coal stove vs wood stove lays out the trade honestly.
Parts and value
Model-specific parts are gone — no factory, no successor company holding tooling. What you can still find is generic: firebrick, gasket rope, and occasionally a blower. Blowers turn up on the used market and are worth grabbing when they do, because the Moes heat noticeably better with one.
One quirk worth knowing if you're buying used: when the company wound down, unsold fireboxes reportedly left the plant without doors and had doors fitted afterward. So there are genuine All Nighter boxes out there wearing non-original doors. They aren't homemade stoves, but a mismatched door usually means a worse seal.
On value: a clean Big Moe with a working blower fetches a few hundred dollars from someone who wants one specifically. A rough one is worth roughly the cost of moving 400 lb of steel. There's real affection for these stoves but no collector market.
The certification problem
Every All Nighter predates the 1988 EPA standard — no certification, no tested efficiency, no emissions figure. That rarely matters while the stove sits where it's sat for forty years. It becomes an obstacle when you relocate it, sell the house, or your insurer asks about the solid-fuel appliance. Call your carrier and your building department before spending money either way. Our EPA certification guide covers the current standard.
What replaces a Moe
Every stove below ships with No Sales Tax in any state and free shipping. Supply is tight this season, so each recommendation shows its live shipping status, and where a first choice can't ship we name the closest alternative that can.
Replacing a Big Moe
Shipping now: the Englander Blue Ridge 300L (No confirmed date) is the closest in-stock alternative to the Drolet Heritage, with the same 500–2,100 sq ft rating, 75,000 BTU/h output and 20" logs.
Shipping now: the Englander Blue Ridge 300P (Ships in 6–10 weeks), the pedestal version of the Blue Ridge 300L, matches the Drolet Heritage on 500–2,100 sq ft, 75,000 BTU/h and 20" logs.

The Big Moe took 28" wood, which is more than any certified stove will accept today — that's the one thing you genuinely lose. For a replacement you can get this season, the Drolet Heritage ($1,589) is the pick: 20" logs, 8-hour burns, up to 2,100 sq ft, and a 100 CFM blower included in the box — which matters, because Big Moe owners already know how much better a box heater spreads heat with a fan on it (No confirmed date). Stock on the Heritage is limited; the Drolet Escape 1800 ($1,549) is the same firebox class without the blower.
Remember the Big Moe's 3,000 sq ft figure was an unstandardised cubic-foot claim; a modern 2,100 sq ft stove burning its gases inside the firebox covers far more of that house than the numbers suggest. If you genuinely need 2,700 sq ft from one freestanding stove, the Drolet HT-3000 (22" logs, 110,000 BTU/h) is the closest match (Ships in about 2 weeks).
You'll be cutting shorter wood. You'll also be burning less of it.
Replacing a Mid Moe

Given where All Nighter was built, a USA-made replacement may matter to you. The Englander Blue Ridge 300P ($1,449, pedestal, Ships in 6–10 weeks) and Blue Ridge 300L ($1,419, legs, No confirmed date) are built by England's Stove Works in Virginia, cover 500–2,100 sq ft on a 2.4 cu ft firebox with 8-hour burns, and vent on the same 6" flue as your Mid Moe. The Drolet Escape 1800 ($1,549, Ships in 6–10 weeks) covers the same range and is our best seller.
Replacing a Little Moe
The Drolet Escape 1200 N ($1,129) covers 250–1,200 sq ft with a glass door and pedestal (Ships in 6–10 weeks). The Drolet Spark II N ($1,049, No confirmed date) is the least expensive option, and the Englander Blue Ridge 100 N ($1,099, Ships in 1–3 days) rounds out the choice. All three put out 75,000 BTU/h at peak. They're compared in our small wood stove guide.
The honest comparison
An All Nighter is a heavy steel box that will outlive most of us. What it won't do is burn efficiently. Pre-secondary-combustion stoves send a large share of the fuel's energy up the flue as unburned gas — that's the entire reason the 1988 standard exists. A modern non-catalytic stove burns those gases inside the firebox instead, which means measurably less wood across a season.
The adjustment: a Moe would burn nearly anything you shoved in it, badly. A secondary-burn stove needs properly seasoned wood and won't perform on wet fuel.
Before you swap
Mid and Big Moes vent at 6 inches, which matches modern stoves — one fewer problem than most vintage swaps. Still check the flue itself: an oversized or unlined masonry chimney draws poorly on a modern stove. See our chimney liner guide and stovepipe guide.
Clearances and floor protection come from the new stove's manual, not from where the old one sat. See the hearth pad guide and installation guide.
Bottom line
Keep it if it's tight, you have a 28-inch wood supply and you like feeding it. Replace it if you're tired of cutting oversized rounds and watching half the heat go up the pipe.
Heritage for a Big Moe, Blue Ridge 300P or Escape 1800 for a Mid Moe, Escape 1200 N for a Little Moe — each shows its live shipping status above. If the Heritage can't ship in time, the Blue Ridge 300L is its in-stock match on 500–2,100 sq ft and 20" logs. No Sales Tax in any state and free shipping over $250.
