Kozi Pellet Stoves: Models, Parts and What Replaces Them
Share
Kozi is a Canadian brand most American owners have never thought much about — the stoves just run. They are built by APR Industries Ltd. of Winnipeg, Manitoba, which has produced the KOZI name since 1977 and tests every model in the worst cold Canada can supply. That is not a marketing line; it is the reason these stoves have a reputation for stubbornly continuing to work.
If you own one and it is starting to show its age, here is the honest picture on parts, and what replaces it when the time comes.
The Kozi lineup
| Model | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Model 100 | Freestanding and insert | The core model, also sold as the 100 XL |
| Baywin | Freestanding and insert | Bay-window styling |
| Previa | Freestanding | Contemporary cabinet |
| KSH Shop Heater | Shop / large space | KSH-120 and KSH-120-DX. 120 lb hopper, extendable to 280 lb, 86% efficiency claimed |
The KSH is the interesting one. A 120 lb hopper that extends to 280 lb is an enormous fuel capacity by any standard — the sort of thing you fill and genuinely forget about for the better part of a week in a shop or outbuilding.
Good news on parts
The aftermarket for Kozi is deep. Blowers, auger motors, igniters, control boards, gaskets, glass, burn pots, thermodiscs, vacuum switches and auger bushings are all stocked by multiple independent suppliers, and Kozi runs an official parts store of its own for the Model 100, Baywin, KSH and Previa. A ten- or fifteen-year-old Kozi is generally keepable.
We carry the three Kozi parts that fail most, with No Sales Tax: the 13-1135 igniter (Baywin, KSH, Model 100 and Previa), the 10-1108 combustion blower (also fits US Stove, Vogelzang, Ashley and Winrich stoves) and the 13-1131 control board for the Model 100, Baywin, KSH and Previa. If you have more than one stove to look after, our full ranges of pellet stove igniters and pellet stove control boards cover most other brands too.
Most pellet stove failures across every brand come down to the same handful of components — igniter, auger motor, exhaust blower, vacuum switch. Before you assume the stove is finished, work through our pellet stove troubleshooting guide. Vent restriction is another frequent culprit that gets misread as a stove fault; the vent pipe guide covers it.
The one real catch: early control boards
This is the detail worth knowing before you spend money on an older unit.
Kozi's early manual rotary-dial control boards are no longer manufactured. If you have one of those, you cannot simply buy a replacement — you need an MX conversion control board kit to move the stove onto the current board. Units that already ran the MX digital board take the MX2 replacement (part CBDKZ001) directly, which is a much simpler job.
Neither situation is fatal. But a rotary-dial Kozi needing a board is the point at which the arithmetic starts to favour a new stove, especially once you add the labour and whatever else is worn.
Shipping now: for fill-and-forget heat like the KSH, the Drolet ECO-65R (Ships in 1–3 days) is the closest in-stock alternative to the 25-CBPAH, with a 125 lb hopper that runs up to 105 hours per fill.

What replaces a Kozi
Match the pellet stoves we carry on hopper capacity and coverage rather than model name, since the ranges do not line up cleanly.
| Coming off a… | Replacement | Price | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| KSH Shop Heater | Englander 25-CBPAH | $2,199 | 120 lb hopper, up to 75 hours per fill — the closest match to the KSH's fill-and-forget behaviour |
| KSH, and you want longer still | Drolet ECO-65R | $4,129 | 125 lb hopper, up to 105 hours per fill, 0.77 g/h — the cleanest and longest-running stove we carry |
| Model 100 or Previa | ComfortBilt HP22 | $2,399 | Up to 2,800 sq ft, 55 lb hopper, 80.5% EPA-certified |
| Baywin (the bay window) | ComfortBilt HP22N | $2,599 | Bay-view glass with an 80 lb hopper, up to 32 hours |
| Model 100 Insert or Baywin Insert | ComfortBilt HP22i | $2,799 | Fits an existing masonry fireplace, 1.01 g/h |
| Smaller Kozi, tighter budget | ComfortBilt HP50S | $1,899 | Slim cabinet, 80.4% EPA-certified |

On that 86% efficiency figure
Kozi's published 86% on the KSH is worth a note. Efficiency across this industry is quoted on several different bases — higher heating value, lower heating value, and "optimum" — and the same appliance can legitimately carry three different numbers eight points apart. The figures we publish on ComfortBilt (80.1–80.7%) are EPA-certified HHV, which is the conservative basis used in certification.
That does not make Kozi's number wrong. It means the two are not directly comparable unless both are quoted the same way. Our guide to reading efficiency ratings explains how to tell which is which, and it is worth five minutes before you compare any two stoves on that figure.
Before you order a replacement
Check the venting. Kozi stoves vent through pellet pipe, and depending on diameter and condition some of your existing run may be reusable — but have it inspected rather than assumed, and measure the equivalent vent length against the new stove's published limit. Clearances differ between old and new appliances too, so work from the new manual rather than the old footprint. The installation guide covers the job.
Bottom line
A running Kozi is worth keeping running. Parts supply is genuinely good, the stoves were built for hard Manitoba winters, and there is no reason to replace something that works.
The line to watch for is the early rotary-dial control board. Once you are buying a conversion kit and paying someone to fit it, you are a meaningful way toward a current stove with a warranty, published EPA figures and thermostatic scheduling.
