American Harvest Pellet Stove (US Stove 6041): Honest Review

Updated October 2026

The American Harvest is US Stove Company's multi-fuel pellet stove, and it's one of the few stoves still sold at big-box stores that will burn shelled corn as well as wood pellets. This review covers what it does well, what multi-fuel burning really costs you, and when a dedicated pellet stove is the better buy. One thing up front: we don't sell a corn-burning stove, so if corn is the point, the American Harvest may be the right choice and we'll say so. If you'll burn pellets, read on. Every stove we sell ships with No Sales Tax in any state.

What the American Harvest is

US Stove introduced the American Harvest in 2001 as its first multi-fuel stove. With a few settings changes it burns premium wood pellets, shelled corn, soybeans, cherry pits, olive pits, biomass grains and pelletized silage. The current model is the 6041, sold as a freestanding stove and as the 6041I fireplace insert.

Spec American Harvest 6041
Max heat output Up to 52,000 BTU
Heating area Up to 2,000 sq ft
Hopper 60 lb
Room blower 120 CFM, included
Fuels Pellets, corn, soybeans, cherry and olive pits, biomass
Mobile home Approved with the 69FAK fresh air kit
Typical price About $1,700–$1,900 at big-box listings

Older numbers such as the 6039 and the 6100/6220 mostly turn up on the used market now. Parts for them, including burn pots, augers and control boards, are still sold through US Stove parts dealers.

Who should buy one

Buy the American Harvest if you have a cheap, steady supply of dry shelled corn or another grain fuel and you're willing to tend it. That flexibility is real, and very few stoves at this price offer it. The burn-pot agitator, which breaks up clinkers as the fuel burns, is the feature that makes corn workable in it.

What multi-fuel burning costs you

Corn and grain fuels are harder work than pellets, and that doesn't change with the stove you buy:

  • Clinkers. The sugars in corn fuse into hard lumps in the burn pot. You'll be clearing it more often than with pellets.
  • Moisture. Corn above about 15% moisture burns poorly and can spoil in the hopper.
  • Corrosion. Corn exhaust is more acidic than pellet exhaust, which is harder on burn pots, augers and venting.
  • Settings. Each fuel needs its own feed and air settings, so switching fuels means re-tuning.

Our corn stove guide explains why most corn-only brands left the market, and what that means for parts.

If you'll burn pellets anyway

Many American Harvest buyers end up burning only pellets, because pellets are sold everywhere and burn cleaner. If that's you, a dedicated pellet stove skips the multi-fuel compromises: no agitator to maintain, no fuel-change re-tuning, and a combustion system tuned for one fuel.

Already own an older American Harvest?

If it runs, keep it running; parts are available. Common repairs are the auger motor, igniter and burn pot, and owners on Hearth.com report auger feed problems on older 6039 units. Replace it when the burn pot or firebox is corroded through, or when repair bills start approaching the price of a new stove. If you switch to a pellet-only stove, your existing pellet vent may be reusable after an inspection. Our pellet venting guide covers what's required, and the pellet stove troubleshooting guide walks through no-feed and no-ignite problems. Our pellet stove installation guide covers the parts, cost and steps.

For the American Harvest 6041 with serial number 8692 or later, the replacement igniter is the 13-1140 igniter (US Stove 80607), which also fits the 5040 and 5501S. It ships with No Sales Tax. If your American Harvest's room blower has gone noisy or weak, we also stock the 11-1221 convection blower for US Stove American Harvest, King and Ashley stoves, and you can browse the rest of our pellet stove parts for augers, switches and gaskets.

The verdict

The American Harvest earns its place if you'll actually burn corn or grain; buy it from a US Stove retailer and budget time for cleaning. If you'll burn pellets, you're paying for multi-fuel hardware you won't use, and a dedicated pellet stove is the cleaner long-term choice.
