Cleveland Iron Works vs ComfortBilt: Check the Specs Before You Buy
Share
Cleveland Iron Works, a subsidiary of Enerco Group, sells pellet stoves through Lowe's, Northern Tool and Amazon. Enerco also builds Tractor Supply's Grand Teton pellet stoves on the same platform. The pitch is smart-home control at a big-box price: built-in Wi-Fi, a phone app on iOS and Android, remote included.
The Wi-Fi is real and it works. But before you buy one, there is something about the published specifications you should know.
The lineup
Four models, named both by code and by number:
- PS20W (No. 215 Mini) — 18 lb hopper, the compact one
- PS60W (No. 200 Medium) — 60 lb hopper, the volume seller
- PS130W (Large) — 130 lb hopper, the biggest in the range
- PSBF66W (Bayfront) — extra-large viewing area
The published specs do not agree with each other
This is worth saying plainly, because it affects whether you buy the right size stove.
For the same PS60W, we found these figures across major retailers and the manufacturer's own site:
| Source | Coverage | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Lowe's listing | 1,200 sq ft | 34,000 BTU |
| Northern Tool listing | — | 26,865 BTU |
| Cleveland Iron Works buying guide | 1,500–2,200 sq ft | — |
| Reseller product pages | 1,200 sq ft | — |
That is a spread of roughly 7,000 BTU on output and a near doubling on the top of the coverage range — for one model. We are not saying which is correct, because we cannot verify it. We are saying that if you are sizing a stove to a room, do not trust any single one of those numbers without confirming it against the manual for the exact model number you are buying.
Sizing a pellet stove on a coverage figure that turns out to be optimistic is the most common way people end up disappointed with pellet heat.
What Cleveland Iron Works does well
Credit where it is due. The Wi-Fi and app control is genuinely convenient and not something every competitor at this price offers. The steel and cast iron construction is solid. Service access is well thought out, and the blower is quiet. The PS130W's 130 lb hopper is a large capacity for the money.
How ComfortBilt compares
| CIW PS60W | ComfortBilt HP22 | ComfortBilt HP22N | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hopper | 60 lb | 55 lb | 80 lb |
| Burn per fill | — | — | up to 32 hrs |
| Output | see note above | 42,000 BTU | 42,000 BTU |
| Coverage | see note above | up to 2,800 sq ft | up to 2,800 sq ft |
| Efficiency | EPA certified | 80.5% EPA-certified | 80.5% EPA-certified |
| Emissions | — | — | 1.01 g/h |
| Control | Wi-Fi app, remote | 7-day programmable, thermostat, remote | 7-day programmable, thermostat, remote |
The honest read: Cleveland Iron Works wins on app connectivity, and the PS130W wins on raw hopper size. ComfortBilt publishes EPA-certified efficiency and emissions figures you can compare like for like against any other certified stove, which — given the spec inconsistency above — is worth something on its own.
If hopper capacity is the deciding factor, the HP22N at 80 lb and up to 32 hours per fill is the model to put against the PS60W. If you want the smaller footprint, the HP50S at 80.4% EPA-certified is our slim-cabinet option.

If you were looking at Cleveland Iron Works for the price, the Alpine HP41 ($1,299) and Alpine HP42 ($1,499) are the ComfortBilts that meet it: EPA certified, temperature control with weekly scheduling, and a remote. The HP42's 120 lb hopper (up to 80 hours on low) is the answer to the PS130W; the 17-inch-wide Alpine HP40 ($1,099) is the answer to the PS20W mini. None of the Alpines has Wi-Fi built in, so if app control is the must-have, that point stays with Cleveland Iron Works. ComfortBilt does sell a BC Innovate Wi-Fi module ($129.99) that adds app control to all three Alpines.
One thing to ignore
You will still see retailer listings for Cleveland Iron Works stoves — and plenty of other brands — advertising a 26% federal tax credit for stoves at 75% efficiency or higher. That credit expired on December 31, 2025. Those listings have not been updated. Do not factor it into your budget, and be cautious about a seller whose product pages are still carrying it, because it suggests the rest of the page has not been checked either.
