Overview
Poultice Creosote Remover (PCR) is designed to remove 3rd degree glazed creosote from clay flue tiles and stainless steel chimney liners. When applied, it dissolves the creosote and absorbs it. As it dries it loses its grip and falls off the flue walls, and whatever remains comes out with normal sweeping. Buy from StoveSource and pay no sales tax in any state.
This is a professional-grade job. PCR is mixed with water outdoors using a heavy-duty drill and mixer, wearing chemical gloves, a respirator and eye protection. It's applied by brush where the flue is easy to reach, or with a specially designed tool pulled up through the chimney. We don't sell that tool. For a homeowner treatment, start with Cre-Away.
Specifications
- Size: 25 lb container, part number 300461
- Coverage: about 15 to 20 linear feet of 7" x 11" clay flue tile, or 10 to 15 feet of 11" x 11" clay flue liner
- Mixing: 4 gallons of clean water, then rest 15 minutes and add up to 1/4 gallon at a time to a loose pudding consistency. Working time is about 45 minutes.
- Drying: generally 24 to 48 hours with natural air flow. A chimney cap keeps rain off while it dries.
- After removal: inspect the flue liner for cracks or damaged joints before using the chimney again
- Extremely heavy deposits may need more than one application
- Shelf life: 36 months unopened
