Overview

ACS (Anti-Creo-Soot) is a liquid manganese catalyst you spray into the firebox. It attacks creosote and soot and helps convert them to an ash or char that's easily removed, and it's used as daily maintenance through the heating season in wood and coal burning appliances. It also reduces ash and clogging in pellet stoves. Buy from StoveSource and pay no sales tax in any state.

Sold by the case only: 12 quart spray bottles or 4 one-gallon containers.

How to use it in a wood stove

  • First use: with a small fire burning, spray about 60 squirts (about 4 oz) on the firebox walls, on the wood, and toward the flue.
  • Daily use: 6 to 12 squirts in the same places. In severe cases, up to 60 squirts a day for the first seven days.
  • After treating: keep a small, brisk fire going for at least 45 minutes. ACS becomes active at surface stove pipe temperatures of 300°F and above.
  • Coal stoves: same method, but don't spray directly onto hot coals.
  • Pellet stoves: apply daily to the hopper and fire chamber.
  • Stoves with catalytic combustors: safe to use, but put the combustor in bypass before treating and for about an hour afterward, and never spray it on a hot or operating combustor.

Have severe conditions inspected and corrected by a qualified chimney sweep before using ACS, and have the chimney cleaned and inspected at least once a year. ACS doesn't replace sweeping.
