Does my wood stove have an ash pan?

Not every wood stove has one. Many EPA-certified stoves are built to burn on a bed of ash and are cleaned with a shovel or an ash vacuum when the bed gets too deep. Check the parts list in your owner's manual: if it shows an ash drawer or ash pan, match that part number to the product page before ordering. Older Englander models, the Century FW series and the Enerzone Solution stoves all take the drawers above.

On the Enerzone Solution 2.3 and 1.7, the ash drawer is built into the pedestal or leg set, so you replace the whole base. Ash drops through into a drawer you pull from the front instead of shoveling it out through the door.

Emptying ash safely

Ash can hold live embers for days. Empty it into a metal container with a tight lid, such as our metal ash bucket, and set it outside on a non-combustible surface, away from the house and the deck, until it is completely cold.
