Overview
🎁 INCLUDED FREE: ComfortBilt Vent Cleaning Kit — for the seasonal cleaning every pellet stove needs.
The ComfortBilt HP61 pellet stove is a large-area model from ComfortBilt's HP line, with a traditional cabinet that ComfortBilt pitches for basements and open floor plans. It is rated to heat up to 3,000 sq ft and delivered 17,617 to 39,769 BTU/h in EPA testing, with a tested efficiency of 80.1% (HHV) and EPA 2020 certification at 1.15 g/h. The 51 lb hopper runs up to 25 hours on the lowest setting, by ComfortBilt's rating. Automatic ignition, a room blower, a programmable control panel and an infrared remote are standard. It vents through 3" pellet pipe and is approved for mobile homes with an outside air connection. Choose Black or Dark Brown.
Who the HP61 is for
- Larger homes and open floor plans up to about 3,000 sq ft, with the stove in a central spot.
- Basement installs that push heat up a stairwell to the main floor.
- Older, draftier houses where a smaller stove would run flat out all winter.
ComfortBilt's 3,000 sq ft rating assumes mild weather; climate, insulation and layout move the real number. The HP61 needs electricity, so keep another heat source for power outages.
Hopper, burn time and heat output
The 51 lb hopper takes a full 40 lb bag. ComfortBilt rates it for up to 25 hours on heat level 1; at higher levels in cold weather, plan on a fill once or twice a day, and expect real-world burn times to vary with pellet quality.
The HP61 is built for steady, high output: up to 39,769 BTU/h at 80.1% efficiency. Its lowest output is 17,617 BTU/h, higher than the HP22's 9,696, so it suits a large space that needs heat most of the day more than a small room that only needs a little. If it overshoots on mild days, turn on ECO in Temp mode and the stove will shut off at your set temperature and re-light when the room cools (more restarts mean more igniter wear).
Controls, remote and thermostat
The control panel runs four modes: Manual (heat levels 1 to 5), Temp (set 61°F to 82°F and the stove adjusts itself from its room sensor), Weekly (a 7-day schedule with up to four periods a day) and Thermostat (a wired wall thermostat lights and stops the stove).
The included infrared remote handles on/off, Manual or Temp mode and the heat level or set temperature. For a thermostat that reads the temperature where you sit, add the ComfortBilt CB3002 wireless remote thermostat. For phone control, the BC Innovate WiFi module fits stoves with the newer 4-pin control panel; check the back of your panel before ordering.

The HP61 carries the higher 3,000 sq ft rating and is the heavier, deeper stove. The HP22 reaches a similar top output with a much lower idle, which makes it the better choice when the stove also has to run gently in fall and spring. The HP22N adds an 80 lb hopper to the HP22 for fewer refills.
Venting and installation
The HP61 has a 3" exhaust and a 2" air intake. Connect a 3" appliance adapter to the exhaust, then run listed Type L or PL pellet vent; our ComfortBilt / DuraVent 3" pellet vent kit covers a standard through-wall install. ComfortBilt's main rules:
- Switch to 4" vent if the vertical run is over 12 ft, the home is above 5,000 ft elevation, or the run has more than one tee or more than 180° of elbows.
- Keep the run short: the maximum equivalent vent length is 17 for 3" pipe and 27 for 4" (a 90° elbow counts as 5 ft of horizontal pipe).
- No more than 4 ft of horizontal run. At least 3 ft of vertical rise is recommended so the stove drafts naturally in a power outage.
- Clearances to combustibles: 2" from the back wall to the stove back, 5" to the rear corners and 7" to side walls (see the clearance table below).
- Mobile homes need an outside air connection, and the stove bolted down and grounded to the chassis. Never install in a bedroom.
Our pellet stove venting guide walks through through-wall and vertical layouts.
✔ Required for Your HP61 Installation
Per the HP61 owner's manual — every pellet stove install needs these:
- ☑ 3" Type-L Pellet Vent Kit — complete piping for a standard through-wall installation (includes the required appliance adapter).
- ☑ Hearth Pad — non-combustible floor protection extending 6" past the glass and both sides (the 36" standard pad fits the HP61).
- ☑ Outside Air Kit — required for mobile homes; recommended for basements and tightly sealed homes.
Optional: extra pipe lengths & elbows for longer runs · clean-out tee for vertical installs.
Floor protection
Unless the stove sits on a non-combustible floor, it needs a non-combustible floor protector under the stove that extends at least 6" in front of the glass and 6" past each side, and 2" beyond an inside clean-out tee. The HP61 is 24" wide, so the minimum pad width is 36": the ComfortBilt 36" hearth pad meets it exactly for flat-wall installs, and the ComfortBilt 40" corner hearth pad gives more margin in a corner. The HP61 + hearth pad combo bundles the stove and pad and saves $249. See all hearth pads or our hearth pad guide.
