Overview

🎁 INCLUDED FREE: ComfortBilt Vent Cleaning Kit — for the seasonal cleaning every pellet stove needs.

The ComfortBilt HP22 pellet stove is a 24"-wide, bay-window model from ComfortBilt's HP line. It heats up to 2,800 sq ft and delivered 9,696 to 40,689 BTU/h in EPA testing. Its 55 lb hopper (40 to 45 lb usable) runs up to 20 hours on the lowest setting. It is EPA 2020 certified at 1.01 g/h with a tested efficiency of 80.5% (HHV). Automatic ignition, a room blower, a programmable control panel and a remote are standard. It vents through 3" pellet pipe and is approved for mobile homes with an outside air connection. Choose Black, Burgundy or Golden Brown, each with or without stainless window trim; the stove behind the finish is the same.

Who the HP22 is for

  • Ranches, two-story homes and open floor plans up to about 2,800 sq ft, with the stove in the main living area.
  • Basements or additions where you want steady, thermostat-controlled heat and a once-a-day refill.

ComfortBilt's 2,800 sq ft rating assumes mild weather; climate, insulation and layout move the real number. The HP22 needs electricity, so keep another heat source for power outages.

Hopper, burn time and heat output

The 55 lb hopper takes a full 40 lb bag with room to spare. ComfortBilt rates it at up to 20 hours on heat level 1; on the higher levels in cold weather, expect to fill it once or twice a day. If you want fewer refills, the ComfortBilt HP22N is the same stove with an 80 lb hopper.

The HP22's output range is what makes it easy to live with. At 9,696 BTU/h it idles lower than the HP21 (12,349) or the HP61 (17,617), so it can hold a room steady in fall and spring without overheating it, then climb past 40,000 BTU/h on the coldest nights. Turn on ECO in Temp mode and the stove will shut off at your set temperature and re-light when the room cools (more restarts mean more igniter wear).

Controls, remote and thermostat

The control panel runs four modes: Manual (heat levels 1 to 5), Temp (set 61°F to 82°F and the stove adjusts itself from its room sensor), Weekly (a 7-day schedule with up to four periods a day) and Thermostat (a wired wall thermostat lights and stops the stove). A sleep timer, child lock and a remote that works from up to 10 ft are included.

For a thermostat that reads the temperature where you sit, add the ComfortBilt CB3002 wireless remote thermostat. For phone control, the BC Innovate WiFi module fits stoves with the newer 4-pin control panel; check the back of your panel before ordering.

Maintenance

Plan on a few minutes a week: pull the scraper rod to clean the heat tubes, empty the ash pan, and open the tool-free magnetic side panels for deeper cleaning. The free ComfortBilt B67C vent cleaning kit handles the seasonal vent brushing.

The HP22N has the same EPA test results as the HP22 and adds 25 lb of hopper, the pick if refilling is your main complaint. The HP61 carries a higher 3,000 sq ft rating with a similar top output, but it does not turn down as far, so the HP22 is the better match when the stove also has to run gently in shoulder seasons.

Venting and installation

The HP22 has a 3" exhaust, centered 12" above the floor, and a 2" air intake. Connect a 3" appliance adapter to the exhaust, then run listed Type L or PL pellet vent; our ComfortBilt / DuraVent 3" pellet vent kit covers a standard through-wall install. The HP22 manual's main rules:

  • Use 4" vent above 5,000 ft elevation, or with more than one tee or more than 180° of elbows.
  • Keep the run short: the maximum equivalent vent length is 15 for 3" pipe and 25 for 4" (a 90° elbow counts as 5 ft of horizontal pipe).
  • No more than 4 ft of horizontal run, rising 1/4" per foot. At least 3 ft of vertical rise is recommended so the stove drafts naturally in a power outage.
  • Clearances to combustibles: 2" from the back wall to the stove back, 5" to the rear corners and 7" to side walls (see the clearance table below).
  • Mobile homes need an outside air connection, and the stove bolted down and grounded to the chassis. Never install in a bedroom.

Our pellet stove venting guide walks through through-wall and vertical layouts.

✔ Required for Your HP22 Installation

Per the HP22 owner's manual — every pellet stove install needs these:

  • ☑ 3" Type-L Pellet Vent Kit — complete piping for a standard through-wall installation (includes the required appliance adapter).
  • ☑ Hearth Pad — non-combustible floor protection extending 6" past the glass and both sides (the 36" standard pad fits the HP22).
  • ☑ Outside Air Kit — required for mobile homes; recommended for basements and tightly sealed homes.

Optional: extra pipe lengths & elbows for longer runs · clean-out tee for vertical installs.

Floor protection

Unless the stove sits on a non-combustible floor, it needs a non-combustible floor protector under the stove that extends at least 6" in front of the glass and 6" past each side, and 2" beyond an inside clean-out tee. The HP22 is 24" wide, so the minimum pad width is 36": the ComfortBilt 36" hearth pad meets it exactly for flat-wall installs, and the ComfortBilt 40" corner hearth pad gives more margin in a corner. The HP22 + hearth pad combo bundles the stove and pad and saves $249. See all hearth pads or our hearth pad guide.

Frequently asked questions

The HP22's 55 lb hopper (40 to 45 lb usable) runs up to 20 hours on heat level 1, according to the owner's manual. On higher heat levels it burns faster, so in cold weather plan on refilling once or twice a day. For fewer refills, the ComfortBilt HP22N is the same stove with an 80 lb hopper.
Hopper size. Both list the same EPA results in their manuals: 9,696 to 40,689 BTU/h, 80.5% HHV efficiency, 1.01 g/h and up to 2,800 sq ft. The HP22 holds 55 lb of pellets; the HP22N holds 80 lb and ships at 291.5 lb versus 285 lb.
ComfortBilt rates the HP22 for up to 2,800 sq ft in mild weather. Because it idles as low as 9,696 BTU/h, it also works in smaller open spaces without overheating them. For a larger home, compare the ComfortBilt HP61 , rated up to 3,000 sq ft.
A 3" appliance adapter on the exhaust, then listed 3" or 4" Type L or PL pellet vent. Use 4" above 5,000 ft elevation or with more than one tee or 180° of elbows. The manual limits equivalent vent length to 15 for 3" pipe and 25 for 4", and horizontal runs to 4 ft. The ComfortBilt / DuraVent 3" pellet vent kit covers a standard through-wall install; see our pellet stove venting guide .
Per the owner's manual: 2" from the back wall to the stove back (or to the vent pipe on a vertical install), 5" from the rear corners and 7" from side walls. The non-combustible floor protector must extend 6" in front of the glass and 6" past each side, so with the HP22's 24" width the pad must be at least 36" wide. The ComfortBilt 36" hearth pad meets that exactly; the 40" corner pad fits corner installs.
Black, Burgundy and Golden Brown, each available with or without a stainless steel window trim. The finish is the only difference; output, hopper, venting and clearances are the same.
